It's been a busy summer of designing for me - not least because of the number of ideas and requests you send me. Thank you and keep them coming - I will get around to most of them eventually! To keep you busy this autumn, I have completed several new projects (available of course, in a range of scales):
Based on a completely redrawn AEC Mammoth Major TG6 chassis, the CL cargo truck in 1/76 is nearly at the limit of the maximum length I can print in one piece. It's an interesting model in its own right, but I added a flatbed version too, and both versions can carry the Bloodhound missile as a load, stripped down and fitted to its transit cradle - a great addition to my Bloodhound set in 1/76.
The Dodge D8, produced by special request, was widely used in the Western Desert
The Austin K9 group includes a wireless/signals van & GS truck, but I particularly like the RAF ambulance, which fills a gap in my post-war RAF vehicle range.
From the same era is the 1950s Thornycroft Mark 5 foam tender, the first of the RAF's post-war fire engines.
To round off this batch of releases, a group of RN deck tractors. The Vickers type was commonly used by the RN in various versions from the 1960s until very recently, and I designed the model by special request; however, I couldn't resist adding the earlier Clarcat B tractor to the range, simply because of its quirky looks! The larger scale tugs include towbars too...
The last item to mention is a detailed interior for my earlier Mark 7 fire tender. Courtesy of Gary J, who kindly supplied photos of interiors of the Mark 5 and Mark 7, I have been able to model both to make the most of the huge windows. If you purchased an earlier Mk7 without interior, you can order a replacement with interior details for just the price of the postage or just include it with a new order!
I thought it's about time to make buying my models a bit more professional! All my existing designs - unique to me and now well over a hundred - are available to purchase in unpainted form. Please have a look around...
Like a lot of people, I've been making models of all sorts since getting my first Airfix kit as a kid. When I couldn't find the particular truck I wanted for a military rail project, I took the plunge into 3D printing and everything snowballed from there! I find the whole process fascinating - from starting with a blank screen to ending up with a finished miniature model!
Thanks to the support and feedback from a number of my early customers, I have been encouraged to expand the range of models to cover a wide range of civilian, military and aviation subjects. The only downside is that now I don't have much time left for my own modelling!!
I use a 3D liquid resin printer, which provides superb detail, despite being a slower and more complicated process than simple filament printing. I do all the 3D drawings myself from scratch - most of the models are designed and drawn in 1/35 or 1/76 size, then scaled down to the required size - usually 1/144 scale or 1/152 (for N gauge). The detail achievable is pretty impressive...
My subjects are a mix of my own preferences and customer suggestions - so if there's a model you need and can't find anywhere else, drop me a line and I may be able to help! Also, since they are all my own drawings, I can sometimes customise the basic designs to make particular vehicles.
My miniatures are made from a liquid photopolymer resin, which is cured with UV light to harden it after printing. This results in a hard, but somewhat brittle plastic - which can easily break if handled carelessly. If you drop a model onto a hard surface, it will probably shatter!
The printing process requires the addition of supports - I try to remove all trace of these, but you may need to do some final cleaning up before painting - use a fine file or sharp craft knife.
Minor blemishes in models can be filled with regular plastic filler, but do not hesitate to contact me if you are unsatisfied with the quality of the model you have received. Models are best primed before painting. If necessary, parts can be glued with a small amount of superglue.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL MODELS ARE SUPPLIED IN GREY UNPAINTED RESIN UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED - PHOTOS OF PAINTED EXAMPLES ARE FOR ILLUSTRATION ONLY
My models are detailed miniatures for serious modellers, intended for static display
- they are not toys and are unsuitable for children
